Epright bought the #143 which was the former Trenton Mack #704. The car as painted
above and numbered 143 was to be Tony Leonard's ride but tragically, Tony, a hard working,
up and coming talented race driver lost his life in a motorcycle accident. I understand Fritz purchased this car (Fritz saw a lot of success behind the wheel of the Trenton Mack #704's) and drove it in the modified ranks at New Egypt. He drove it as the #143 (Tony Leonard's #) for a few weeks and then repainted the car and changed the number to the #1. While the technology was a few years old, little by little Fritz was getting the car more and more competitive until a frontstretch crash ended the comeback for the #704 turned #143, turned #1. |
