from Bob: Here's a scan of a shot from my Jan Opperman collection. It
was shot by Lloyd King at the Trenton Modified race in 1972. Ray Hendrick had recently left the T&M Flying 11 and they put Jan Opperman in the car. As Jan mentions in his April 1973 SCR magazine interview, the team had recently replaced the small block with a big block Chevy making it nose heavy and tough to drive. He qualified 8th, and held on for a 16th place finish. If you notice Ray's name is still on the roof, but the driver has a purple helmet with duct tape on it matching the one worn by Jan in 1972. |
