Comment:  Not sure who is behind the wheel of the last car to
be built by legendary Wally Marks.  We have heard that the Taylor
Brothers (Lee & Larry - one or both) drove it at some point, along with Red
Coffin, Billy Pauch, and from there.. we're not sure.  The car was full
of Wally's lessons learned in the trade....  Other than the tires, the
right rear shock, and the steering wheel, there probably wasn't much on this
one that wasn't homemade or at least handed down from an earlier racecar.
After its last race (probably 1979 or 1980) the car spent the next decade at Wally's residence near the former site of the Trenton Speedway. Ray Neary, who Wally mentored both he and Fred Menschner on their silver #21 coupe in the early 70's, would secure the car after Wally's passing and after a 2 year restoration, was able to bring it back to its former glory. |
