Comment from Steve: I wanted to share the above pictures of
Earl Howell's 29. Earl was from Belvidere and these photos were taken at his
home. The 29 with the white roof that Earl is sitting in is from 1967. The
29 with the black roof was raced in 1968 and 1969. The number and lettering
style came about because the Howell's were big Tas fans. Earl raced at Flemington, Nazareth and Harmony and was always an also ran. He put a lot of work into his cars and most importantly had fun. He was gracious in putting up with this pre-teen hanging around and trying to stay out of the way. Earl passed away in 2015. Please enjoy my tribute to one of my childhood heroes, Earl Howell. |
