Comments: This is a one of a kind photo.  It was taken by, and provided to us by photographer Charlie Moore a few years back.  It is probably the only picture of the inside of Wally Marks' garage as I understand Wally wasn't much for taking pictures.  What Wally was about however is amazing.

I never met Wally but I've had an opportunity to talk to many who worked side by side with him, and one story is better than the next...  Wally had a unique way of doing everything and the results often reflected it.  Many a crewman, racer and car owner from the Trenton area will credit a good chunk of their knowledge as having come from something they learned from Wally.

Wally was the owner of the car that Wally Campbell won a NASCAR Championship back in the early 50's.  (Sadly, Wally Campbell would lose his life in a Sprint car crash just a few years later.)  His cars always had the gold #1 and in later years would be driven by drivers such as Lee and Larry Taylor, Al Michalchuk, Red Coffin, Billy Pauch, Red Coffin, Bill Beasley.

The photo above shows Wally's son Jimmy seated in the center with Wally in the background just under the lowest hanging light.  As you can see, Wally was a collector of things that might come in handy, and his racecars always reflected that.  Off to the left you see what would end up being Wally's last car which was driven by a few of the drivers mentioned above.

I had a chance to meet  Wally's son Jim a few months ago and told him about how many people out there remember Wally and his cars from throughout the years.  I also thanked Jim for seeing to it that Wally's last car (the one pictured above) was put into the hands of the very capable Ray Neary, who did a great job of totally restoring the car back to the point of being vintage "race ready".

We thank Charlie Moore/Family of Charlie Moore for this photo.  Charlie passed away (June 2009) but his talents as a fine photographer are now being carried on by his grandson Justin Moore, who lives in Montana, and is making a name for himself as a racing photographer by taking photos at the local speedways out there, as well as at major events including Indy.

06.21.09 David Daniels I look at this picture and see the American dream of a family.  At the top of the picture you can see an American flag displayed.  This says it all.  May God continue to bless our great country and the dreams that we follow!
01.27.11 Joe DiMemmo Nottingham way? Hamilton twp. Still look over when going past even today.
10.06.15 RL I remember Marks garage behind his fathers hardware store next to old Trenton transit bus garage. He had dirt floor and Satirday morning he spread newspaper on the floor and took the flathead apart and checked things out.  Wally Campbell would drive around bus lot then they flat tow.  Running for Nascar points.  Very close to Johnson Welding who did lots of racecar welding.

Wally Marks would take a stale cigar an chew on it for hours and then when that was done he'd put 1/2 an  orange and chew that the same way.  At times they would run  twice on sat and sun. maybe 3 or 4 other nights a week.
