Comments: Comments from Kevin:  I took this photo just before I moved away from Washington State this past May.  I'm pretty sure you know the story of how Fred Brownfield was killed while working at Grays Harbor Raceway in June 2006.

The seats in the photo are a part of the new tower seats installed at the raceway over the winter of 2006-07. It was decided by the new management that the first seat in the top row of the new section was permanently reserved for Fred. No one will ever be allowed to sit in that seat.

All his race cars were yellow and #92.

Some of the old timers said it wasn't right because Fred would never like to see an empty seat at his track. Others say it isn't right because Fred never seemed to find any time to actually sit down while at the Raceway.

I like it, I think its a cool way to remember a great guy who was a big time fan and supporter of dirt short track racing.

I realize your site is more aimed at the NJ/Pa side of short track racing, and understand if it doesn't belong but I think some of your visitors might like the photo.

08/26/07 Roy I like it, it fits, hope there's always room for more like this.
08/28/07 Joe Friscia I think the reserved seat is a great idea! One thing is certain, if the track owner or promoter is against this type of memorial because its one less ticket he could sell, well then, he just isn't a race fan!

08/27/07 3-Wide Thanks for providing the picture Kevin.  I know that for the brief time you got to work for Fred, you had developed a lot of respect for him.  I know he would have accomplished a great deal more...  Great to see that the current management found a way to see to it that he will always have a great view of the action....
08/30/07 Bruce I think that is a very nice tribute to Fred. It does'nt matter were your from when it comes to being a race fan, we are one big family!
Thanks for shareing the story, and to 3wide too.
Now if we could only get some seats like that at some of our local tracks, Boy would'nt that be nice :)
08/30/07 3-Wide I was at a Phillies game last week and they had the same kind of seats.   Made for a pretty comfortable evening including the cup holder in front.   (Only problem is no outside food or beverages are allowed in so you either end up with a $6 beer or a $4 water in there.)
09/01/07 Kevin Mc Well they certainly look like seats one would find at a baseball or football
stadium. And why not?

Chances are pretty good that those seats were originally in the old Seattle
Kingdome.

Fred managed to snag a pile of seats when they tore that stadium down. I
know he had plans to make a new set of stands at his race track and use the Kingdome seats he had . Always the innovator

Im pretty sure I recall seeing some of those seats piled out in the weeds in
a dark corner at the track at one time.  Dont know where the seats ended up. Theyre probably in storage some where now.

I bet you never thought the Kingdome would ever come up on your site when you created it, eh Joe?
