Comments: Comment from Dave:  This week, I had the opportunity to stop by and visit with Bob Rindgen, who also still lives in the same town I do (Hillsborough).  Bob had purchased my old "DD" mustang that I last campaigned in 1979. Bob had rebuilt the car and enjoyed much success with it in the early 1980's.

Among his many other projects, Bob has decided to re-create that old style chassis and body (with modern safety features) to bring back to life a time when you could still tell a driver based on the body style of car he was driving.  In today's age of "cookie cutter" cars, individuality has been lost, and so has much of the excitement of racing.

The 70's was a great era for stock car racing, and it was a time that brought out a lot of creativity in people that seems to be missing today.  Back then, you had to hand fabricate a lot of parts in order to make a car work. There was very little "off the shelf" parts you could buy, so you took out the torch, grinder and welder, and did it yourself. Not easy, but it did give you a sense of pride when you were done.

Bob is currently in the process of completing the rolling chassis and will be adding the body and other components this winter.  Bob is an exteremely talented builder and fabricator, and this is going to be one "kick ass" car when it is complete. I'm truly excited to be able to help Bob recreate this car, as it will bring back a ton of great memories for me.

I've included a pic that was taken early January at Bob's shop to give you glimpse into this project. I'm also going to offer a website with other pics in case anyone would like to see the progress of the build. You can visit my web album at the following address:

01/29/07 Wayne Weaver The Chassis looks great Bob. Dave Spurlin has been keeping me apprised of the progress! Good luck with the project and have fun! I really enjoyed restoring my 12W Gremlin. Can't wait to see the final product. Looking forward to seeing the car on track. (Another dirt car.)

Bob will be adding his own comments here once the project is closer to completion. It's starting to take shape, and is going to be one sweet ride when finished. I'll continue to post more pics as they become available.
02/22/07 3-Wide Dave, thanks for sharing the project with the Visitors of the Vault.   Its perfect timing with it being the off season... reminds me of when I was a kid and my dad would take me by a few of the guys shops who were building their new cars for the upcoming season.  We'd stop by every so often and check out the progress... from a few bars welded together, to a body being hung... to a motor being dropped in.... then   paint and lettering, and then that really cool feeling the first time you saw it on the track on opening day and knowing that you saw the whole deal being created.   Thanks again, and tell Bob how much we appreciate him taking us along for a ride in the #19!
07/15/07 One of the ARC gang. Dave how many pop rivets did you put in the sheet metal of your car ?
02.15.10 Tom Doherty Had the good fortune to sit behind Bob at yesterday's Daytona 500, and between the two-plus hours of "pot-hole" delays, had a lot of time to reminisce about the Jersey racing scene. I was the announcer at Flemington in 66, 67 and 68.between Nat Kleinfield and Bill Singer.so didn't get to see Bob race, but had been introduced to The Vault last year by John Fitzgerald, owner of the restored Pete Frazee #68.

Couldn't believe the history that The Vault has preserved, especially the pictures and accounts of the legends I was privileged to see race.  Tasnady, Schneider, Olsen, Kelly, Ploski, Beavers to name just a few. Bob and I discussed the current state of dirt racing compared to past years, and he told me about the pictorial of his Mustang re-build on the website. Plan to visit Hillsborough sometime soon to see the finished product!
