04/08/06 3-Wide Many of the Vault Faithful know that Jackie lost his life in a racing accident in the very early 70's.

Because of this, I had some reservations about posting this photo as I do not know if the car above was the car that Jackie was driving on that night.  I'm not sure when this photo was taken other than it has to be at least from the mid 60's as it looks like a 63 Corvair directly behind Jackie.

One thing we can all agree on is that cars are much safer today, but that we should never become content when it comes to the level of safety that we feel we have reached.   I'm sure that when guys were building cars in the mid 60's, they probably felt like they were safer than those offered in years past... and so it goes.

I think I got to see Jackie race at an All Star Race at Flemington in 1970 or so and I know that he was considered one of the top Modified drivers in the area at the time of his accident.
04/09/06 Brian Marsh ...pretty sure I took this pic in 1968.....its been along time.
04/14/06 Stew Jackie died on a Sunday night at Reading in 1970.
11/16/07 na na Jackie was my mom's brothers brother in law and we used to watch him race in Miami before he moved north. Tragically he lost his life on August 28, 1970 at the Reading Fairgrounds.
12/03/07 Debbi Phillips My name is Debbi Phillips and I am Jackie’s niece, daughter of Betty Mays who was his sister. He was such a beautiful person with a killer grin. I remember I was pregnant with my first child and my husband and I were living with my parents and watching tv and the phone rang , it was my aunt faye calling to tell us he had died. Was extremely hard for us to believe that this had happened with him dying doing what he loved to do, racing. I had just spoke to him a couple of days prior with him telling me how excited he was to come home in time to see my first baby.

Jackie was a cool guy with a great sense of humor and we all still miss and love him. I am happy that there is a pic of him with my favorite smile of his and that I could post my comment. Thank you Brian for the picture.
