Comments: | Not 100% sure of the location here, and it's pretty obvious
that is is one of the oldest pictures submitted to the Vault, but we are told this was
taken at Manahawkin Speedway. For those of you not familiar with the Garden State,
Manahawin is the town that you go through just before going over the causeway bridge to
Long Beach Island (Ocean County) on Route 72. Having spent a few years living down
there as a kid, I remember stories about the speedway being carved out of the sandy soil,
about a mile or so southwest of the RT 9 & RT 72 intersection. My mom had photos of the place that she sent to a fellow who was doing a story in the "Beacon" (local newspaper) on the old place a few years back and unfortunately he has sinced passed away |
