Comments: I wasn't a huge fan of the Mini-Stocks, but when they ran, all eyes were on the "Flying One" who seemed to have the field covered in this very fast VW powered vehicle that definitely earned it's wings!  George later ran in the Super Stock class at New Egypt Speedway until turning over the driving chores to Gary Butler in 2002 and Shawn McCaughey in 2004.

11/20/04 D.J. Everett I may have missed a few of these races back in the 80's, but when I did see them run, George was always in victory lane. I can't ever remember a different winner.
02/22/07 George Pavlisko Trust me there where no other winners other than George and Bob Trafford. I ran the #25 AMSA Modified and only saw the BACK of the #1.
Flemington scared the (&*^*% out of me the first time. Remember that AMSA ran at Fort Dix, Dorney Park and such. The 5/8 was a true test of pucker power to put the throttle down.
04/02/07 Tom Gray George was fast where ever he raced but I favored the front engine upright cars such as the Bob Trafford #3 (Mustang) and the Don Hassler #5 (Gremlin). If I remember correctly George made the bodies for these two beautiful mounts. I lettered a few cars for George including this car "The Innovator". I helped him for about two seasons before I started racing with the AMSA club. I ran an old Bob Trafford #3 that he won a championship with but in between it was raced as the #70 of Jon Seavers. It sported a Capri body and was a dull blue #27 when I raced it. The car lasted four races before the front end was wrecked at Flemington during the 1977 fair race on a Friday. I was planning to run it again that evening at Naz but that was the last ride for this mount.

Back to the picture above. Chuck Carberry drove the #47 mid
engine car just to the inside of Unfried. This car was fast as well at
Flemington.  Regarding other winners at Flemington in the AMSA division: George Schierer in the mid engine mustang (and earlier in the front engine Opel GT) #12, Jay Aten in the Danny Kasper mid engine Falcon #11 (later becoming the George Schierer mount), Bobby Hackel when he would run the Tuesday/Friday fair dates, Luke Wagner in the mid engine Rabbit #33 and Leroy Martin in the mid engine #66 beetle both from the Harrisburg area scored wins during rare Saturday night races in the fall. I also remember Paul Sandy Rochelle running an odd looking purple? #104 front engine 32 ford vic fiberglass bodied racer that was fast (looked like a midget chassis) and won at least a heat race, but I think he capped a main as well.

The AMSA club was full of fun loving and colorful drivers including Trafford, Seavers, Unfried, Schierer, Big Ray Vernon, Chuck "Bunny" Schnieder, George Berry, Rich Guy, Dave Laird, Wayne Braddock, Bob Pfister, Bobby Stull (the series flagger), Lou Brunnel (the series announcer) and many more. These guys built some very unique cars that reflected their personality. My time running with this series was some of the most memorable in the sport. I wish there were more photos of them on the Internet.

My last
season running with the AMSA series was in 1980 when we ran Flemington, Linda Speedway, Penn National, Middletown and the big show on the Pocono 3/4 miler.....Now that was a scary ride in a dirt upright car! I had to sell the car to pay for my last year of college but found my way back into the driver seat a few years later down in Florida.

And to test my memory I think that George Pavlisko's car was a mid engine VW with a blue falcon body. I'll hedge and say that it could have been red as well but I think blue is the one I remember. I'll send a picture of my old Gremlin mount when I get a chance.
04/30/07 Mark Koegel I lived in Miami Fla. I loved to race with the northern guys. Thats where the real compition was. I would leave work fri. Drive 24hrs to Nj race and get home in time to work mon.

I met Tom Gray at Bunny Schnieder`s house one summer. He forgot to say he was a great car painter, air brush pin striper. I got to race with the best Mini Mod guys ,like George , Jay Aton Bob Hackel, Bob Traford, who set up the Pocono races for us.Luke Wagner,Dan Masservy of Mass.Yall had tracks everywhere.

We could come up and run Flemington, Naz,Linda`s, Pocono, Hagerstown,Lincoln,I tried to run them all one summer. I flew up to NJ and Bunny picked me up and off we went racing.Bobby Malzon lived near me, he told me thats the area to go racing in. He would go crazy waiting for racing season in the North East.

If any one knows any of the mini stock guys ,give them my email tell them to give me a holler. mkoegel@zipnet.us If you want to see mini`s in florida look up florida city speedway
