Comments: A sad sight to see... This was the former site of Langhorne Speedway.  It's been over 40 years since the last race, but as best as I can remember, this is about where the main grandstands would have been, with turn one being somewhere to the left of the trees.

As I sat there looking at the closed furniture store, I thought of Foyt... Andretti... Branson... Hurtubise.... Hoag... Treichler....Campbell... I thought about the infield and watching the races from the back of a scaffold in the bed of my dad's '67 Chevy Pickup.  I remember walking up to the back of the pits to catch a glimpse of the drivers and their cars.  I remember kids riding mini-bikes up the old drag strip while waiting for the race to start...  And then I realize that a furniture store may be able to take away our racetrack, but it can't take away our memories.

04.27.12 Edward Smith Great picture as I have similar memories of Langhorn. My dad took me there in the early 1960's for the modified races. I remember seeing Dutch Hoag win the 1960 race and seeing his rear tire fall off of the car in victory lane. I saw Bob Malzhan win the 1961 race. In 1962 there was a great battle between Frankie Schneider and Johnny Mackinson for the first 20 + laps of the race with Schneider eventually winning the race. It was Dutch Hoag again in 1963. My personal favorite was 1964 with a stiring final 10 laps featuring a dual between Bill Wimble, Kenny Shoemaker and Freddy Adam. As a Reading and Hatfield regular we were trilled that Freddy won the event. Then in 1965 we saw the first running of the event on pavement with Bill Slater coming out on top. Attending Langhorne with my father was a special treat. We used to pay one of the locals to park in their yard and walk up Rt 1 to the track. We always attended the time trials the day before to get familiar with some of the New York and Central PA cars. Seeing these cars on the same speedway as Foyt, Andretti, Unser etc gave us the feeling that our favorites had made it to the big time. Thanks for posting this picture.
