Comments: Sad picture for all of us....  Whenever possible, I used to sit in the corner seat (top row) of the first turn and watch them come down the straight, throwing it sideways a little way past the starter's stand setting up their entrance to turn one.   It was a great seat.

When the action slowed down on the track, I'd look a little off to my right and see if there were any late arrivals turning in off of Airport Rd on their way into the pits.  Then I'd look behind me to see if there was anybody signing into the office (remember how some guys used to pull their rigs over and park them for a minute while they ran inside prior to heading to the pits?)  Then I'd swing around and look behind the main grandstand to see if it looked like a lot of people were down by the snackbar and novelty stand.......  Just about then Bill Singer would let us know that they were going green and once again all the attention would focus back to the stars on the track as their RPM's crept up just a little as they entered turn 3...   Waiting for Harry Dee's green flag...

09/18/07 Kevin Mc I didnt sit down that far into T1 all that often. I liked sitting just past the flagstand. Remember watching hot laps and the first 1 or 2 heats just waiting for the sun to finally set behind the trees in turn 2?

Looking at the photo, I was reminded how I'd always walk all along the stands on the way to my seat so I could see if there was any familar faces in the stands.

Sometimes there'd be 5 or 6 of us. Some nights we hardly even saw the races. Just too busy catching up.

Many times it was just me and that was fine too.

Looks like there's a tree in the way where that little Alston boy used to do his thing. No trees in the way for Old Tex yet . Plenty of room still for him to bolt out the way of a dozen race cars coming down for the green all aimed right at him. Doesnt matter though. Tex is gone and the race cars are gone.

Its not a happy photo for any one who looked forward to sitting in those hard planks on a warm Friday night. But it still reminds me of happy times. Like finding a forgotten picture of an old sweetheart. Any bitterness is long gone, you just recall the good times & smile.

It would impossible to even guess, but just try to imagine how many people sat in those stands. How many drivers drove down that straightaway. How many races? How many laps?

Great photo of another piece of old Jersey that no longer fits in New Jersey.
09/20/07 racerx Sat right there at the top right by the white aisle for years and years. It's a shame; this was once the premier Friday night track on the East Coast.  Back in the early eighties, I sat there one night thinking that this is going to come to an end; too much buildup in the area. Great track, wrong location.
10/10/07 Thom L. First time my parents ever took me to Windsor, back in the 70's, I took a mud clod, from Ken Brenn's big block Grant King car, right in the stomach. We sat in this same area then.

Later in life, the late 80's, I recall the battles between Rahmer, Hoffman, Horton, and Pauchy on Friday nights. We had some good times during, and after, those races.....Thanks urban sprawl !!!!
11/06/07 Steve Kresge Relating to racerx.... Location was good. Just don't know why people build next to a dirt car track and have the outright nerve to squawk if the track was there first you have no say so about the dust and noise!!!!  It's the persons fault for building next to a dirt track.

Just like the Nazareth ½ mile.  The track was moved to the end of town in 1920.    Brown-Daub Chevrolet dealership moves next to the track around 60 years later and wants to be upset about the dust getting on the new cars. What's wrong with this picture??  The only ones that had a right to say anything is the people who lived there before 1920.

I say tear out the Nazareth giant and put a track back in. I think this is called grandfathering.  But I do't have a ton of money so this won't get me anywhere.
08.07.16 Mark Donato I can remember them days so well . I sat in them grandstands watching my dad Frank Donato and Charles Howard racing the 22 modified then I was old enough to race sportsman the 22 junior black pinto my name is Mark Donato. It brings a tear to my eyes.
