Comments: | Some of the drivers of the Statewide #3 include Gary Balough, Billy Osmun and Jimmy Horton, but here's an interesting shot of asphalt ace Richie Evans next to the car... |

09.01.10 | Kevin | Richie Evans won a Stafford race that guaranteed him a spot at Syracuse in 1976. Being good friends with Billy Osmun, Evans landed Statewide's original Kenny Weld modified. Jimmy Horton raced the newer '76 model. |
11.30.14 | 3-Wide | So... just to try to understand this, I'm being told that
Statewide had 3 Kenny Weld built cars for the 1976 season: 1. Red Statewide #3 - Original "Weikert #29" Weld built car that was driven by Billy Osmun, Kenny Weld and I guess Gary Balough (and maybe Jimmy Horton) 2. White Statewide #19: Originally raced (1st time out) as the white #19 driven by Kenny Brightbill 3. Red Statewide #3 - The 2nd of two red Statewide #3 Weld cars. This car was first driven as a Statewide red #3 with Jimmy Horton behind the wheel (?) Also, is there anyway to tell if the car pictured above is the 1st red Statewide #3 (originally the Weikert #29) or is the car pictured above the 2nd red Statewide #3? |
