Comments: Comment:  Driver:  Jimmy Maguire.  Jimmy once told me that in his early years of racing, a fellow competitor wasn't too pleased with his driving, and gave him the nickname of "Magoo."  It's kind of a cool nickname when you think about Jim's last name "Maguire" kind of starts off like "Magoo".... but have you ever seen the Mr. Magoo cartoon and watched him drive (lol!)

From those that I've spoken too have told me, Jim was on his way to the top levels of racing, including a shot at Indy (in a car that I think Mario Andretti eventually got an early ride in) but tragedy struck when Jim was involved in an accident that resulted in the loss of his right arm.  As race drivers do... (and I'm not sure how...) Jim as determined as ever made his way back to racing, and back to his winning ways in open wheel competition.

In his later driving years, Jim bought a modified off of Ken Brenn Sr, and put a small block in it, kept the yellow paint, and numbered it "37" and began racing at Flemington in the Sportsman division in the mid 70's.

After hanging up the helmet, Jim has become a true ambassador of the sport, sharing memories and stories from the decades that he competed.  We thank Jim for his racing efforts, and to his efforts in helping us all to know the history of the sport.
