Comments: Comment:  Driver:  Dick Havens.  Friend of the Vault Fred Menschner told me once that when Dick raced one time he had a cigar in his top shirt pocket, and he knew the car was handling well because the cigar was still in the pocket when he came in from hot laps.....  (SEE VISITOR'S COMMENTS BELOW FOR ADDITIONAL INFO)

01.13.24 Fred M Joe, here's more specifics on the story....  I was at Flemington in the pits one night in 1970 and Dick Havens came in off the race track and he was saying to George Taylor Jr while still sitting in the race car there was a shock bad ...George asked him how did he know that and Dick said all the cigars vibrated out of his top pocket...Dick turned to me and said Fred you know what I mean... i said to George Jr believe him and check it out....low and behold they found a shock bad.  Dick was such a great driver and knew the feel of the race car.
01.14.24 3Wide Thanks for helping me get the story right Fred.  I remember you telling me the story... probably told to me one of those times we used to get Saturday "remember racing" breakfasts with you and Ray Neary.  I miss the stories, and I miss Ray, but will always be glad for those Saturday's.
