The #1 Studebaker driven by Bobby Holmberg I believe in the early 1960's. Bobby was a main stay on Long Island but again ran in Jersey on many occasions. The background photo is from Ace Lane's book, taken at Old Bridge Speedway and is the only known photo to exist of the car. If anyone has any further photos of it, I know that his nephew Kris would be thrilled to see them.

The Bob Park (Steve's father) 1960 Studebaker Lark that he ran at Islip back in the late 1960's and early 1970's. It was one of his earlier rides from a long successful career. I like it but it still looks like a bathtub!

This is a model of one of Gary Winters rides, who was a regular on Long Island but also ran up and down the east coast at tracks like Wall Stadium, Trenton and Daytona just to name a few. He was well known for years for his beautiful #380 modifieds. This is the famous Monza that he ran in the 1970's which was known as "Monzilla".

This is the 1961 Comet run by Georgie Tet in the 1960's. I remember him from Islip speedway but he also ran at Old Bridge and Nazareth from what I remember. His trademark was the Geisha Girl on the side of many of his rides. I think he was the first Japanese driver in NASCAR.

The Hank DeAngelo (son of Al) Corvair campaigned mostly at Islip Speedway in the early 1970's. He never enjoyed the success that his dad did in the modifieds and raced mostly on Long Island. He had a similar personality to his dad's and if you ever met him you knew he was a DeAngelo. He was a really good guy.

The Frank "Mississippi" Curtis Coach. Another driver that ran mostly on Long Island but it wasn't uncommon back then to see him also running in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. I may have made this one too Purplish Pink, but at the time I built it I only had access to Black and White photos and was working from memory. That's not always a good thing!

The 1936 Modified Coupe of Bobby Lane. Bobby ran mostly at Islip Speedway. He was very successful in the Figure 8 Division and later made the transition to modifieds. He never enjoyed the same success in the modified division, but he was a driver that will always be remembered for his personality.

My foster father was Al Mathon. He was the track welder at Islip for many years. I was there in 1972 when Mr. Lane won the World Figure 8 Championship (it was broadcast on ABC's Wide World of Sports. He drove one hell of a race and everyone was thrilled that a local had won). He was about as good as a fellow as you could imaging, but a fierce competitor when he hit the track. THE TECH ALLOY sticker on the car was Al's company. It was not unusual to have famous racers stop by the house (Big Daddy Don Garlits, "Cha-Cha" Shirley Muldowney and Bobby Isaac to name a few). The model is AMAZING on the detail and you can tell that a lot of love went into it!
