Senior Moment From Larry
Jendras: Here is a Senior Moment where the senior needs some help remembering. We all know Frankie's NASCAR Grand National win came at Old Dominion Speedway on 4-25-1958, which was also the first GN race for the track. But from articles and race reports I have read, they said it was in a #62 1957 Chevy. My guess is this photo of the #44 Hugh Babb 1957 Chevy was from 1957 and the race was a Short Track Grand National event held at ODS. There was a Short track race held there on 8-10-1957 with John Dodd Jr. winning and Frankie second. This was one of the Chevy factory cars that were painted similar using numbers #44, #45, #46, #47 & #87. Frankie's team drivers were Rex White, Jack Smith, Speedy Thompson and Buck Baker. |

09/02/08 | Ed Duncan | On June 29,1957 Frank won a Short Track race at Manassas beating Jim Reed, Elmo Langley, Jim Findley an John Dodd Sr. |
09/04/08 | Larry Jendras Jr. | Thanks Ed, I think you have the answer. A Washington Post article before the August race listed Frankie as the favorite, which is probably because of this June 29th win. |
