One of the most versatile drivers in the East has been Hal Browning. He has won feature events in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware in Stock cars, “Bugs”, Sprints and Late Models and he also drove midgets and was in 2 NASCAR Busch series races. He got his start at Westport Stadium in Baltimore, Md. in 1959.

A very young Hal is shown here in a Hobby car in 1960 at Westport sitting at the start finish line. Notice the phone poles separating the track from the baseball field, for which Westport was originally built.

You can still see Hal racing today in the Late Models in Delaware.

12/15/08 Joeytrouble I remember Hal was a real force at Reading in the Frank Periandri # 260 against some real stiff competition. I believe he won 2 or 3 features in that car which was very impressive considering Al Tasnady couldn't really get that car to work. Hal became a fan favorite and one of the best drivers to compete at Reading, which considering the guys that ran there, that's really saying something.
