Comments: “Stock Cars and the Local Garage"

A great thrill growing up in the 50's was checking out the stock cars that were sitting at the local garage or gas station or even someone's driveway. In my area of Dundalk, Md., just southeast of Baltimore, I could ride my bike to 4 locations to check out was being done to the local cars.

The location for the 1960 photo is Randallstown, Md. and the garage (now The Cycle Shack) that several drivers/car owners shared. Randallstown was quite a hotbed of activity in Maryland racing. Shown is the immaculate new coupe of Neil Haight, to be numbered #88. It was owned by the Liebno Bros. and wrenched by the soon to be famous Bud Grimm. In the background is the older #38 that has been stripped and to the right several 1937 Ford bodies for future use.

Scenes like these were part of the thrill of early racing.

06/06/08 Mark Yaple Thanks for this great shot. One can only imagine what the young men are thinking about here. Reminds me so much of my younger days around the Trenton, NJ area.
06/06/08 Don Nugent Man what a great shot.....sure would like to have that car now
06/07/08 Glenn Grafton Great picture. Brings back a lot of memories of the coupe and coach era in racing. Just think what those cars would be worth today if restored.
06/08/08 Mark Yaple This latest picture says it all. I keep looking at it over and over kind of wishing I could go back just one time.   Thanks for the Vault and the new section, Sr. Moments.
06/09/08 Charlie Miller Wow, What a great shot. It looks like those roll bars are a little thin, also notice the little reflectors on both sides of the back window so you could "flat" tow it to the track. I do believe that's a very young Bud Grim sitting on the left fender of the older car. Thanks for the fine picture.
06/11/08 Bob Fink Many thanks for the "memory jogger " absolutely great photo.
09/04/08 Bill Lawson looks like they have their 3 best men on the job...................
11/07/08 Bill Van Top notch picture; unrehearsed & genuine - this shows why Black & White photography is still around AND why it's said that a picture is worth a thousand words.
