Afternooners At Allentown

Nothing can pep up a day like a Bob Farlee photo from the 60's!

This heat race photo from Allentown does the job for me. What a field of cars. For all you coupes and coach guys out there, how many do you recognize?
While at first you may jump on it and say, "That's 1963!" One car and the decal on its side however sets the correct year for me.

I can't thank Bob Farlee enough or Bob Burd who converted the Farlee collection from slides to negatives to prints, for these fabulous memories.

07.01.10 TERRY VAN # #74 WHAT A GREAT PHOTO !!!!! THANKS TO BOB FARLEE/ BOB BURD/ AND RUSS DODGE FOR PROVIDING THESE GREAT WINDOWS OF THE PAST. THE CARS AND DRIVERS IN ALL OF COUPE AND SEDAN DAYS IS WHAT ( HOOKED ) ME INTO ( STOCK ??? ) CAR RACING !!!

P.S. I WONDER IF THE INTERNATIONAL SCOUT IN THE LOWER RIGHT OF THE PICTURE EVER BECAME A RACE CAR IN LATER YEARS. I KNOW A LOT OF CAR BUILDERS VALUED THE FRAMES IN THESE VEHICLES.
07.01.10 Rob Renninger What a great field for a HEAT RACE at the Allentown Fairgrounds in 1962.   It looks like you have the 16J of Elton Hildreth on the pole, next to him the white #10 sedan of Otto Harwi, an unknown blue coupe, SSS Ed Farley, 3A of Tommy McAndrews, yellow coach 2A of Billy D, red coach #24 Sonny Strupp, orange coupe ???, Z of Buck Barker, 6Jr. of Ken Wismer, the Deasey #707 of George Sleight, the Jordan #2 of Jackie McLaughlin, red and white coupe #9 Warren Mutter, #44 Tas with the giant SCHMIDT'S Beer DECAL on the side of the car AND on the roof. The last black coupe is the radical set back (for the time) black #45 of Buck Schuster who was a Hatfield regular.
07.02.10 Ed Duncan Another great picture.  thanks for posting.
07.02.10 Geoff Yoder Many thanks for the great color picture from the Allentown Fairgrounds. Those afternoon shows were always so special because they drew the best of the best from the whole northeast! Many times when in high school and college myself and my friends would make it a double header going to Nazareth or Harmony for the races later that night if they were Sunday. Sat shows we went to Hatfield or Flemington Even the IMCA sprint shows at the end which were on the cinder track had great fields. .Great times.
07.08.10 George Perkins What a cool pic. Allentown was a really neat place. I feel very fortunate to have made it there a couple of times.

I would of loved to see a race at this track, But it was before my time. My father saw a bunch here and I still ask him about it. What is really neat about this photo is that they did have dirt on this track I always thought it was cinders.

Till this day when Me, and my Wife go shopping at the farmers market I will walk to the old grandstands, and track. Then I remember the pictures I've seen (Like this one) and try to imagine what the place used to be like watching a race there. Thank you Russ for sharing this photo, and preserving the past for us who didn't experience it! .
