05/16/07 3-Wide If the date of this photo is correct (1946) looks like this car was influenced by WWII as it definitely has that fighter cockpit look to it.
By the looks of those in the background, it was a real attention grabber.

Not sure how supportive the roof would be as it looks pretty pretty thin, and with the belts that were used back then, I'd say it took a real daredevil to take a seat in this one, but then again, that's what these guys were all about.  Great photo guys.
10/01/08 Tom Avenengo The correct name for this driver is Doc Shanebrook. This car has also been restored.
07.02.12 Russ Miller Doc had rolled his car and had some broken bones etc. He was a bit over 6 feet tall and there was not a lot of room to play turtle.

He had enough of the hospital life and unhooked his pulleys and braces and checked him self out of hospital.

While rebuilding his car he experimented with roll bars. To my knowledge he was the first to install them. The sheet metal must have come a bit after cause when I say the car there were just bars.

I was just a 16/17 year old kid hanging around the garage owned by the Tuffinelli racing team in Blue Island, Ill. when he re built the car.
