Nazareth National did not reopen until 1982 and also ran in 1983, Ron out of the state of Arizona moved onto the World of Outlaws after running the Silver Crown Series.  The picture would be around this time period because the track would be closed down shortly after its rebirth. Next time the track reopen the track was paved.

11.21.15 3-Wide Thanks for the info Don.  I attended a USAC Stock Race in the late 60's on the big dirt track (not sure if that was 1 mile or 1 1/8 mile...  I attended races at the 1/2 mile dirt track in the mid 70's, and then I attended an Indy Car Race in the 2000's.  I guess my question to those that might know is was the dirt track that I watched the USAC stocks on in the late 60's the same dirt track as above, or was significant changes made from the 60's version to the 80's version?

I’m gonna say that this paint job on the Shuman car is not from 1983. So…..that would make this a picture from the opening race at the “new” Nazareth National Speedway in Dec 1982.

Joe, as far as your question on the track length for the stock car race that you attended there in the 1960’s-That was when it was 1 and 1/8 mile dirt. From 1966-1971 it was 1 and 1/8 mile. In 1982 and to this day it was one mile in length. They shortened the “rooster tail” turn (turn 2) in 1982. It used to go all the way out to route 248 in the 1966-71 version.

The above illustrates the changes made to shorten Nazareth National to 1 mile in 1983

11.23.15 3-Wide Thanks for the info Jack - I kind of remember that you had explained it to me before but now that you're retired, you know all about how this gettin' old thing works!
