01.03.09 John Edell My Dad pioneered the modern modified back then by stretching his sprint car and putting his sportsman body on it. He had a hard time with the tracks letting him run it at first.....go figure
01.03.10 3-Wide John, Thanks for providing the photos of your father.  Sad to hear that he lost his life racing.  We are grateful that you provided the photos so that we could post them for others to see and remember your dad.

The 2nd photo of the sprint car looks like it might have been taken at Wall Stadium.  Can't tell if they are asphalt tires, but one thing is for sure - that right front was quite a bit bigger than the right rear so I'm guessing he was either trying to get the #77 to turn on its own (although I'm not sure if that would happen with the big tire on the front) or maybe the corner speeds were so high that it acted like a big shock up there so the car would stay level in the turns...

If you compare the sprint car photos with the sedan photo, its pretty clear to see that it really was a sprint car under that big sedan body.  Really like the color of the cars as there were not many gold cars ever in local modified racing.  Not sure why, but there just wasn't.
