Comments: | Great looking late model from the 80's at Flemington during the dirt days. Looks like it might have been opening day as this one doesn't have a scratch on it and if I remember correctly it didn't usually take too long before they got more than a few scratches. Thanks to all the late model guys that put on a great show for us converted mod and sportsman fans... |

11/21/07 | Gary Bauer | I live down the street from where John grew up in Stirling, NJ. As a kid
in the 80's I would alway go over to his house ( He had moved out already) and talk with
his mom, Elsie. She would always pull out some old photo's from flemington to show me. I
even once got to go into the basement and check out "the most amazing thing" I
had ever seen at that time. It was a slot car track modeled after Flemington, I think. I
dont remember much about it because I only got to see it once. It was either Johns or his
brothers. I got pretty close with Elsie and she eventually starting taking me with her to Flemington. I always prayed Flemington didn't get rained out once we were there because I was certainly going to have to spend the night at bingo at the Whitehouse Rescue Squad before making it back home. It was pretty neat going with her and cheering for John and then her grandson Sammy Martz. I have attatched a picture I took of John on opening night of Flemington 91' on the asphalt. John won that night. The only problem with just about every picture I took of John is that Elsie's hand or arm got in the way as she was always yelling and cheering for him. There also used to be an old coupe behind her house all covered in brush, I dont recall a number on it but she asked me several times to take it and get it out of her yard. I wish I did. I 'm sure it ended up in a scrap pile. Gary Bauer |
12/12/07 | Tom Berry | John won a feature with this car in '88 and went on to finish second in points, he also won on 89 in this car. We are in the process of restoring it at John's shop in Asbury , N.J. |
