Comments: Here's a real King car for sure.  It's Gary Balough in the Billie Harvey "Fast-Lane LTD" racer.  I think this was an original King car.  Not sure what became of it.

01.31.12 CHIP This was Late Sept, of 79" when they use to run the Tri-Track Series Nazareth, Flemington and Middletown and they had 100 Lappers with a point Champ, at the end of the series..
03.06.12 CHIP I was in the Drive In that night, Gary was trying to catch an extremely fast Brett Hearn when he drifted to high and got into the first turn wall.  Gary also unfortunately broke while leading Syracuse that October..  Gary always had nice equipment to work with...
Thanks  - Chip
03.17.12 Kevin Mc There was a large color photo of all the race cars Billie Harvey owned in Stock Car Magazine back around 1979 or 1980. This modified or one that looked just like this one was in the photo along with a Winston Cup car, a Late Model and I'm pretty sure Mr. Harvey himself was seen seated on a go-kart also with a #31 on the front of it.   He tossed a bunch of money around on race cars then I'm pretty sure he became a guest of the state around the same time his driver did. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong
03.18.12 3-Wide I don't know many that knew him, but the few that I do know say that he was a real nice guy.  Here's a few interesting links:

03.19.12 Kevin Mc The picture in that top link that Joe provided is the picture I was thinking of. Looks like I forgot about a couple of the cars

I saw it at Eastern States, came in on a Texas hauler, everything a matching blue color except the wrecker that brought it, Billy and Gary arrived by helicopter.

09.27.12 Dave Daniels I have a different outlook on Billie Harvey. From his history of drug running, I have no respect for Billie.  Yes, he had beautiful cars and all the best in tooling to go racing, but he made his racing dollars from drug running.  Yes, some of our heroes have been down this road.  Some are alive to talk about it.  But what a shame, when a man has to peddle a poison to get his racing fix.  In the end, it ruined Billie's career as well as his reputation in society.  There were others involved with Billie, as they did their time.  Billie passed away in 2007.  I guess you can say he had the most toys at one time, but now most of them are a faint memory......
09.27.12 3-Wide Dave - I am the most anti-drug person you've ever met...  Don't drink... don't smoke pot...  don't even like taking ibuprofen unless I'm really in bad shape, however one thing I've learned as I get older is that unless I see it with my own eyes... unless I witness something in person, I don't form a real strong opinion about what people supposed to have done... or how something supposed to have happened.  That being said, I know very little about Billie Harvey and more importantly, I don't know anything directly other than an acquaintance of mine who I respect said that he knew Billie and that he was a super nice guy.  I never met him... never spoke directly with anyone that really knew him closely...  and I wasn't invited to attend any type of legal proceedings where I would have been privy to factual information, so I hear what you are saying Dave, and if I KNEW things directly, I'd probably be beating the drum right alongside of you.

I'll give you an example of what I mean....  Have you ever witnessed a news making event... Maybe an accident... maybe a crime... maybe you attended an event where something out of the blue happened and as a result, the press got involved and then  presented as news... as "the truth" exactly what was supposed to have happened?  I have, and I'm not lying when I tell you that it's usually about 60% correct.  There is always missing information and or false statements made that totally conflict with the REALITY THAT I WITNESSED....

That being said, I no longer take a strong position on what I've heard about somebody... or about a situation unless I have more than just the press' account, or the account of those that are getting their info from the press.

Ironically Dave, right now... on my desk... I have a newspaper article from what I think was either the NY Daily News from 2/19/82 and the headline reads "FBI: EX-N.J. RACE KING RAN $300M DRUG RING".  I know who was indicted... I know who was charged.. I know who was convicted.  I still don't really know what happened!

I know a lot of folks go through life with the "Where there's smoke, there's fire" mentality.  I used to.  Now I'm more likely to believe, "Where there's smoke, there's smoke."

Sometimes "smoke" can burn you, and sometimes it's just smoke.

Not sure if it was at this race, but I was standing right in front of him when he told someone that he was worried about an approaching hurricane, because he had 4 Million in cash stashed in his basement in ft. Lauderdale, and I knew that my in-laws in Ft. Lauderdale had no basement, too close to water on the canal.
