The 1va pictured here was built by a team out of Chesapeake, Va that included my dad Charles Logwood, my uncle Ray, and long renowned engine builder Charlie High. That is Charlie shown with his foot up on the right front tire. They ran modifieds until around 1969 when all the Virginia tracks switched to late model sportsman cars. Other than Lennie Pond driving their machines were Doug Yates of North Carolina, and Eddie Crouse. They raced primarily at Langley and Southside as well as the big shows including Trenton and Martinsville. Charlie still has a couple of guys running his engines today at Langley and can still be found in victory lane on a regular basis. Lennie beat out Darrell Waltrip for Winston Cup rookie of the year in 1974. |
