01.03.09 Ned Stites III This is a wonderful picture. What great times we had back then. I feel
privileged that I got to see both of them in competition. After all of these years, I still feel the excitement of being there when Jackie, Budd, Tas, Schneider, and many other favorites pulled into the pits. They look so happy to be there.

That says it all to me. Thank you for posting such a beautiful moment in time.
01.04.08 Pete Lovell What a great shot. The corrugated roofing tin and trees look like the pits at Nazareth.
01.04.08 Michael Pine's Mom! The photo was taken at Nazareth in 1964. In the photo, between Jack and Budd is Sam Armbruster.  Behind Jack is his father, Henry. Behind Budd is Ben Pine.
01.04.09 Terry Ziegler What an amazing photo! Jackie's dad was real proud of him and always had stories to tell. Sam was quite a character as well.
02.19.11 Gary I've been doing some research on Jackie McLaughlin and am so happy to have found some info! I remember Jackie's death. He was a kind of hero to me.

I knew him back then but I was a young boy of 8 when he died. My parents were close friends of Jackie and his car builder Lucky. My memories may be vague but they are still fond memories of playing in Jackie's deuce (don't tell Lucky) and snooping around the garage while Lucky was cursing under the hood of that maroon (I think) coupé. Some times we-my brother and two sisters-were banished to sit in the living room with Lucky's son (Rusty? I don't really remember his name) to watch some horrible movie with giant ants in the sewer. I really wanted to stay in garage watching Lucky and Jackie work on the car.

We often went to the track at Flemington and other places in a parade of cars and trucks towing the deuce, with Jackie, Lucky and the rest of the gang, kids and all. We would all be in the pits watching from the infield eating bologna sandwiches which were soggy from being in the coolers with all the beer.

I can't remember for certain if I was at the track the night Jackie crashed, but I sure remember my mother telling me on the way home that Jackie was dead. I was so sad. My hero was gone. Our trips to the races stopped then too, but I'm still a racing fan!!!

If someone could send me a bit more info on Jackie and Lucky and the deuce and maybe a few photos, I would be very grateful.

Thanks so much,
Gary
