Comment: 1973 Flemington Rookie Champion Billy Mitchell.
The coupe shown above, is the car that Bill won the championship with, and
is the Budd Olsen built coupe that Ken Brenn Jr won the 1972 Rookie
Championship. Prior to that, it had been driven at the end of the 1971
season by Stan Ploski. In 1974, Bill put a Gremlin body on the Olsen car and ran it in the Sportsman division (also orange with the #42) as well as in the 1975 season. Bill began running modifieds in the later part of the 1975 season and continued running in the modified division in 1976 when tragically, he lost his life in a work accident. Bill was a winner from the time he got behind the wheel of the coupe shown above, and I know he would have been a winner in the modified division too. |
