Comments: Comment:  Driver Tommie Elliott is presented with the Wally Campbell Memorial Trophy by Mrs. Wally Campbell after winning the special event held at Morristown Raceway (Morristown NJ).  The memorial event was held in honor of Wally Campbell, who lost his life in a open wheel crash in Salem, Indiana on July 17th, 1954, less than a month earlier.

Wally won in everything he drove and those that knew him, said that he was the best they had ever seen.  Wally was raised in my hometown of Allentown NJ and sadly, after an amazing career behind the wheel, it is here in Allentown NJ that is his final resting spot.  For more information on Wally Campbell, visit:  www.wallycampbell.com .

I grew up in the shadow of the The Wally Campbell Memorial Trophy…a beautiful trophy it was, big thick rich walnut plaque w/ a very detailed Bronze Open Wheel Racer…of all the hundreds of trophies, photos and memorabilia this was the only piece that Tommie had on display in his home…more than the trophy itself, Tommie was a huge fan of Wally Campbell and told me he would have done anything to have won that Memorial Race…

First picture looks like Tommy standing in front of the Milliard Wright 97a. That's quite a group in the second photo, I recognize Nat Kleinfield, Frankie Schneider, Jack Chroquette (who was Tommie's teammate driving the 97b in 1954 and was also Nascar National Modified champion that year), Tommie Elliott, Nick Nicoletti, not sure, and Nascar Eastern rep. Bob Sall and right.
