The white haired gentleman is Ray Sullivan, long time flagger at Flemington and other area speedways.            Don McTavish was tragically killed at Daytona in the late 60's.

I find it ironic that this picture of Don was posted here during the time of this year's Daytona 500 and Nationwide race was being run.  Ironic by the fact that the horrific crash that Kyle Larson experienced, during the recent Nationwide race, was quite similar to the one that took Don's life back in 1969.  Don's car hit the crossover gate between the forth turn and the tri-oval area where Kyle's car hit.  The impact of both crashes literally cut both cars in half at the firewall.  Unfortunately, Don, in the peak of his young career, did not survive his crash.  He was one heck of racer and has been truly missed.

Don MacTavish was first person I thought of when Kyle Larson's car had the front end torn off at Daytona. I'll never forget them announcing on TV( Wide World of Sports-probably) " tell your kids to turn away from the TV for a moment, because it was going to be pretty bad". So I did.

That is the Late Ray Sullivan in victory lane.  In talking with Ray's Son, Glenn he said that his Dad would flag at Old Bridge, then drive to Trenton to work the races the next day.

The car is the XL-1
