You can't look at this photo and not hear Bill Singer voice saying "Saaaaaammy
Beeeeeavers" , followed by the hooting, hollering, whistlin' and applauding
that would happen whenever Sam was introduced... One of the all time greats
Sammy Beavers pictured here along side of "one of" the Jim Horton Sr. #33's.
This was right around the time that the guys were getting pretty creative
when it came to trying "sheet metal" bodies instead of sticking with "real
steel", and as they experimented, the bodies got wider and wider...
Sammy was one of those guys who had success in Coupes, Sedans, Gremlins,
Mustangs, and in the more fabricated style bodied cars as pictured above. Off the track, Sammy, along with friends Ace Lane and Mike Grbac were involved in the early efforts of seeing to it that the local racing community supported the kids at the Matheny School in Peapack, NJ... (a tradition that's gone on for close to 40 years.) |
