Comments: When you look at this photo, you can't help but feel like you are there.  (The concern for the driver... The other driver's coming to his aid...  The smoke in the air... The spectators in the background witnessing the event, hoping to see the driver move... Hoping to see him climb out of his battered machine... Hoping to hear Bill Singer say, "And He's Out of The Car!"

The photographer is Jack Kromer who is reponsible for many of the great images that you guys see in those AARN Pictorials from the 70's and 80's.  Jack provided the photo to us.

I wasn't going to post the image at first out but after contacting Gary and finding out that although badly shaken as a result of the crash, he did recover and was back racing a few weeks later.

In addition to driving his own "Sod Buster's" back in the 70's and 80's, Gary's also known for providing some serious power under the hood of quite a few cars.  This past season (2007), Gary's son Danny dominated the New Egypt Speedway Rookie class, winning the Championship and proved to all that he's the real deal in short order!

06/11/08 Kevin Eyres There was never anything more violent than a Flemington flip. Parts, major ones, were strewn everywhere. They didn't have the soft wing to absorb the blows. Often, you would see the driver being "rocked" about inside that tiny cockpit. The last settling roll always looked the worse on the driver. Neck and arms settling in. You would see him trying to shake it off and regain his senses, only hoping not to be unconscious. The newer cars hide the drivers and with today's safety equipment, doesn't seem as "violent".
