Comments: | Comment: Charlie Jarzombek at Dover Speedway. I wasn't there this day, but it looks like Charlie took down about 150' of fencing in this one. Wondering if any of you guys were there on this day? |

I was there that day. My parents and I always attended the Dover modified races. I would have been 19 years old at the time of this race. Many times Ray Hendrick would win at Dover in the famous 11. I believe this accident was in the 2nd turn. I remember it taking a while to get Charlie out of the car. I also remember a large amount of fencing being taken down by the crash. If my memory is correct I do not believe Charlie was injured in this accident. Thanks for posting this picture. What a great time that was for modified racing... |

I was there that day also. I was 16 years old at the time and It was 1969 and Charlie wrecked with Bobby Ballantine and Charlie was on top of Ballantine’s car roof to roof. The picture was in stock Car Racing Magazine. Dover had 100 lap Modified and 100 lap Late Model Sportsman and Sonny Hutchens won the Late Model race and Bobby Ballantine ran 2nd in Red’s Kagel’s car. Red’s was limited to tracks under a mile at the time but he put a great car under Bobby. Bobby ran his own car in the Modified race and wrecked with Charlie J. Thanks, Mike Heath |
