Comments: Of all the times I saw Gerald race, I rarely remember him ever needing the wrecker.  The photo above shows that it can happen to even the best of them as Gerald puts his helmet back into the #76 Falcon after riding a rough one out.

I'm not sure what year this was, but it was toward the end of the #76 days..., after it was no longer owned by Joe Bullock.  (Joe's son Mark had told me that you could always tell which cars his dad owned by looking at the side nerf bars...  If they were angled bars (like above) then the car was not owned by Joe Bullock.  (His cars always had the smaller one straight side nerf bar.)

Could this have been the last night that Gerald drove a Falcon #76 at Flemington?

02.11.12 Jack Kromer Man, what turn and year did this happen? I don't recall Gerry ever crashing hard anywhere. I missed most of the Flemington 1978 season, so I'm guessing it was from that period.
02.11.12 3-Wide Not sure Jack... If it was 1978, I had just graduated high school... and was dating Karen Wilson... (used to pick her up late on Saturday afternoon after she got out of work at a clothing store where Rt 27 splits with Rt 518 near Kendall Park...  )  Good times...
03.18.12 Mark Bullock What puzzles me about this picture, is the fact that he was running injectors. After Dad retired, Gerald usually only ran a carb for the bonus Flemington paid.
03.18.12 3-Wide Thanks for the first hand info Mark.  Seems like not to many people remember this crash and I'm still wondering if this was the end of the line for this car....  I think we've asked before Mark, but do you know what happened to the Falcon's once Gerald was done?  (There were 2 of them, right?)  Thanks again Mark.
03.19.12 John Larsen This looks like the big crash on the Flemington backstretch in 1978. I think that Pauch's 15 and the Mike Grbac's Arrow 121 had some heavy damage as well. If I recall correctly something like 19 cars had some type of damage from the wreck. At least everyone managed to walk away relatively unscathed if I remember right.
03.20.12 Mark Bullock Actually Joe, we had three Falcons when dad retired after the 1976 season. The last I heard a gentleman in western Pennsylvania had the bare remains of one, which Gerald confirmed was one he and Gus built for dad.  Other then that, sadly I have no idea what happened to the other two.
03.26.12 Rick Lugg If it's the one I remember Red Coffin broke his arm also.
03.29.12 Frank Eeckhoudt Wasn't it in early '77 this happened, I think that was the year he spent the remainder of the season as a team mate of Glenn Fitzcharles. Glenn driving the 23 and Gerry driving the 23G. If memory serves, Gerry won a race or two with the 23G that year, Fitzcharles' car was all red and Chamberlain's was red and white with RS autobody on the back? Both of those littleTerry Ebersole chassied Gremlins were FAST. feel free to correct me
if I am wrong It was a LOOONG time ago
