03.03.13 Barry Miller

The driver in this car is Smokey Sheeler, he was a regular at Grandview.  He drove both late models and sportsmen at Grandview.  He was my first favorite "hobby" car driver at Grandview as a young boy.

He use to have a small teddy bear tied to the roof of his hobby car because his nickname was Smokey Bear.  One time he won the feature and he took the bear off and threw it into the stands, I didn't catch it but I thought that was cool.  He won in the hobbies and later LM's but he never won a sportsman feature.  Barry

03.03.13 3-Wide I didn't notice it until you mentioned it Barry, but sure enough, there's a little blue bear tied up to the front of the roof.

I did not notice the bear on this car either until you mentioned it and I looked at it again.  This car was read in later years and then became a Corvair body in the 'mid '70's.  I had a picture of him in victory lane when he won his last late model feature at Grandview in'71 or '72 with a Comet bodied late model but that got lost in our move from Pottstown to Reading after Hurricane Agnes in '72.  Thanks for The Vault, it brings back a lot of great memories for me.
