Are you old enough to
remember the Joey Chitwood shows? Lindy had them every year at Reading. If
memory serves (and daily it fails more and more) Chitwood was a sprint car
driver before entering the thrill car circuit. But it was just like a
circus, limited danger, a lot of showmanship. They controlled everything
about the stunts. Let's face it, if it was as dangerous as they made it out
to be they would never have been able to do it for so many years. But it
made for good entertainment, the fans loved it, Chitwood made a buck, the
promoter a few more, and possibly people who never attended a race before
became fans after seeing the show. Simple days; no Twitter, Facebook, cell
phones, no bull$hit. |
