Car #: #58
Driver (s) : Merv Treichler

Comments: Comment from Matt:  Did someone ask about this car? The whole point here was to get the roof up above the dirty air. It looked ridicules and I don't remember how it ran. Balough's # 112 was still well over a second faster!

03/19/06 Kevin McElvaine Ugly as a mud fence!!

Interesting I see no roll bar padding, looks like no arm restraints and a seat with none of the modern wrap around ideas. Funny 1980 seems so recent but common sense safety issues like that were just not thought about back then.
03/23/06 Dave Welty It's hard to remember much else about that day but the Bat-mobile. However I believe Triechler had qualified badly with the original body work. Started near the back of the pack and ran through the field to as high as third. Not sure but I think he finished in the top five. What isn't obvious in this picture was there was a second ply of aluminum added under the roof to create a true wing out of the roof. I think it would have been a lot more effective with more pitch angle. However nothing was going to touch Balough that day!
03/31/06 Dave Medler Just went and looked in a SDW program. They only listed the top 10 for that race. (1) Balough (2) Buzzie (3) Cozze (4) Bodine (5) Brenn Jr (6) Jack Johnson (7) Rudolph (8) Leckonby (9) Brightbill (10) Mike McLaughin.

If I remember right the first car across the line that didn't mess with the body work was from Ken Brenn 5th- through McLaughlin.- 10th
06/04/06 Dave Welty It should also be noted that it's C.D. Coville right behind Treichler. Does anyone know what C.D. stands for?
08/17/06 Dave Welty (Referring to the comment above): The mind isn't what it used to be, but it its Clarence something. We always said it was for Crash and Destroy.
08/25/06 Todd Jenkins I'm pretty sure C.D. are the intials for Clarence Donald.... I could be wrong, but that's what I'm remembering.....
12/14/06 BIGBIRD130 Yes it's Clarence Donald.  I worked for him for a few years.
