Comments: | I think this is an early 80's picture, but then again, Billy looks so young, could it be from 79? Either way, as the story goes, the "L" goes like "Hell" and they weren't lying! Both Larry Kline and Billy "The Kid" gave the Liedl "L" quite a ride at the square! |

11/05/04 | Paul Garzillo | Billy set the consecutive win record of 9 at Flemington in this ride in 1981, only to be skunked by a determined Chip Slocum going for 10 in a row.Billy won 13 that year @ the "Square". If my math is correct, Billy is about 23 yrs old in this shot. |
11/06/04 | Mike Messinger | I thought he lost the "10 in a row" in '81 to Kenny Brightbill in the 200 lapper? |
03/02/05 | Fred Voorhees | I quickly checked his stats and it looks as though the only year that he
managed to win 9 in a row was in 1981. I know he pulled off the feat in the Leidl car, but I'm not sure exactly who kept him from breaking the record. If you ask me, it was Brightbill and I think it was when Billy was leading the year ending 200 lapper and Kenny came from a lap down and passed Billy just a few laps from the checkered. I could check back in my collection of AARN's to really confirm it. |
