Comments: The 80's at Flemington was a time of creativity...  The real bodies were gone and were replaced by the sheet metal, often Gremlin shaped creations that hugged the contour of the roll cage.   While many of us didn't like to see the real bodies replaced, at least their was still a huge variety of shapes and sizes.

Eventually, the bodies got a little wider as guys caught onto the importance of downforce... inner panels were added... including a flat inner rear deck for even more downforce...  and within a decade, pretty much everybody figured out what was best... and eventually, somewhere along the way, rules were put in place so that other than the stripes and the lettering... they all pretty much looked the same...

So here it is... 30 years later... and this little #R7 driven by Ray Woodall, that to me always looked a little "tall".... (I think somebody mentioned that they called it "the phone booth"... but I always thought it was pretty cool...) takes it's place here in The Vault.

02.11.12 Bruce Thomas Neat looking car. I wish the rule's would be relaxed a bit today. I wonder if it would help bring back a little more creativity in the body style's? I bet these guy's had little trouble maintaining the car at the track, and look, you can actually see the driver wheeling the car. I miss that view a lot. Down force issues today, have really become overkill in my opinion.
02.17.12 fltlnjok ACCORD SPEEDWAY in Accord, NY, is a ¼ mile dirt track about 30 - 45 minutes northwest of Middletown. They race on Friday nights and it's good racing. It's family owned and they have a Family Special admission: $40 for 2 adults & 2 children under 12. Comes with popcorn. I mention that only to indicate the type of place it is. I thought of the Flemington atmosphere.

One of their rule changes for 2012 was to eliminate " sail panels" for modifieds. I hope that this is something which will make the cars a little less cookie cutter. I managed to get there for the first time last year and it was a GREAT night.

That was Ray's first car he took it up too Nazareth National Speedway and was involved in a flip with Fast Freddy Rahmer and Gloria Katona. The wreck was featured in Stock Car Racing Magazine. The Roll Cage broke and was Junked after the wreck.

Ray went on to run the Gary Winfield car and his own cars. Ray ran the Final Season at Nazareth Half mile in his # 72. Today Ray helps his son Ray Jr., a top Sportsman driver at Big Diamond Raceway.
