Comments: Here's a picture of one of the modifieds taken at Williams Grove in 1982 by Larry.  Not sure what kind of a body this started out with, but it looks a little like a Valiant looking Weld like car that looks a little like the Batmobile!  Pretty cool stuff...

12/17/03 JOHN S I DONT KNOW WHO IT IS BUT I SURE WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE PICTURES OF IT AND IT DOES LOOK KINDA LIKE A VALIANT/WELD CAR  JOHN S. KOKOMO, IN
06/26/04 Wayne Weaver This car is a Valiant.  The car was built by Alfred and Dave Parker from Georgetown Delaware.  The car also had a Hemi in it.  I drove for the Parkers in the late 80's and they always had Hemi's and built their own cars.  They are truly  great people and loved racing.
06/27/04 3 Wide Thanks for the information Wayne.

I'd like to see this creation featured in one of those new Dodge commercials where the pickup truck pulls up to the light.....  "Hey -  Does that thing have a Hemi in it?"

I don't know who sold us all out to where the rules made it impossible to use a body (or pieces of it) that actually once sat a top a real "Stock" production vehicle, but the uniqueness of each car made for a very exciting night at the speedway.  Coupes and Coaches...., then Gremlins and Pintos, followed by some Falcon's, Mustangs, Valiants, Corvairs, and even an occassional Chevy II....

I've quoted him before, and I'll will continue to do so now that he has passed..... Bill Singer told me a few years back:  "The problem today is that if you painted all the cars white, you wouldn't be able to pick out your favorite...."  Bill was right.  Cars like the #100 showed the fabrication skills and the individualism that this sport was originally built on.

02/23/05 Scott H Hal Browning was one of the greatest drivers at Delaware International Speedway in the '80's. He did double duty and drove a late model so hard that it actually broke part way into the feature.  I just wish I was young enough to see him race at the Fairgrounds.
09/28/05 Jeff Phillips I watched many a race at Reading Fairgrounds in the early 70's. Kenny Brightbill was my favorite but Hal Browning was also a favorite. Moved to Southern Delaware in 1974. Watched races at Georgetown Speedway (on RTE 113) and at what is now Delaware International Speedway in Delmar (think it was US13 Speedway back then). Georgetown Speedway held a BIG race and an unknown showed up...a brown (I think) #55 of Hal Browning. I was the only one in the stands rooting for him. He won that race! I remember looking at his car after the race and the threads were showing in his tires (that was a dry abrasive track). Eventually I lived in a small home about 1/2 mile south of Georgetown Speedway. It later changed its name to Seacoast Speedway after I moved north. It has been closed for years. I wonder if anyone remembers that race? Actually Hal Browning must have liked Delaware. I think he moved someplace around Seaford Delaware and even raced late Models. Have lost track of him. I live NH now...this ain't rac'n country!
09/28/05 Jeff Phillips I just read where Hal Browning jumped in a modified (I just looked it up at:
http://www.delawareracing.com/showSpeedwayRes.php?event=173 and did rather well (11th), after years of not being behind the wheel of one of these cars. It said he was 68 years old?
11/15/07 Scott Colvin Hal was actually driving a crate latemodel at Georgetown last year. I do not know if he still is. He was running the monster racing thing at Dover Downs. He actually qualified for a busch race up there before. I remeber Hal raced a midget with the ARDC back in the 80's and damn near won until the mighty mouse engine broke in 4 with like 2 or 3 to go. Heidenreich ended up winning that race.

Hal raced a latemodel # 55 at US 13 (DIS). It was half latemodel and half modified. Of course we called it the latemodified. It was wicked fast back then but evidentally not welded very well as it broke the frame almost in half 1 night if I remember correctly. We loved the Al Parker "bumble bee" no matter who was behind the wheel. It's just part of the heritage of that era and of Georgetown and US 13 speedways.
11/17/07 3-Wide Hal was racing on 11/10/07 at Bridgeports Turkey Chase in possibly a small block???
12/31/08 "Mazda" George I don't know how old Hal is today, but this past summer he's still driving racecars and he's still pretty good at it.

I've known Hal for the last 40 years. Last I heard, he's living in Georgetown, DE and if he still is, he's been there for quite a while now. Hal was seen driving Crate Late Models and an occasional Super Late Model this past year....and as mentioned, he had some very respectable finishes.

Only the good Lord knows how long ol "Moe" will continue to race. But I'll tell you one thing. There's never been a more talented racer than 'ol Browning. I've seen him win in the sprinters....I've seen him win in the "bugs" (Lincoln, Dorsey & other tracks).  I've seen him win with the big block modifieds, small block modifieds, super late models and limited late models. I've even seen him race with the Busch North series at Dover with a very respectable run in a race won by Jimmy Spencer. Ol "Moe" has done it all......and
continues to give it every effort.

That's what I love about my sport. Men who endeavor to race wherever and whenever they can....under any circumstances.

I wish, my friend.....'ol "Moe".....the very best.

11.10.10 Kevin Ritchie Hal is still racing and WINNING at Delaware International at the age of 73. (As of the end of the 2010 season) He has been running Super Late Models for the past couple years. He ran a "Wings and Things" show early in the 2010 season where the side boards were bolted on. Hal ran a lap faster than the URC sprints at an average of 106 MPH on the clay half mile! He was literally sailing thru the turns! Hal has been my favorite driver for as long as I have been going to DIS. I still remember sitting inv the stands in my early teens and drawing pictures of his car, one of which he signed. Boy don't you think I wish I still had that!!

After I wrote that last sentence, I got to thinking I had an old album with drawings that I had done as a child. I didn't find the picture of Hal, but I found some pictures that my dad and I took in the early to mid 80's at DIS (US 13) and Syracuse. I will pass them along as soon as I get a little info on each!
