Comments: Hard to talk about Flemington in the 70's and 80's without mentioning Stan "The Man" Ploski.   Here is a beautiful Ace Lane compilation that he used to offer for many of the top runners.  (Now I wish I had bought every single one of them!!!)  Thanks for sharing Kevin, and thanks to Ace for such a great photo.

11/9/03 Dominic K To me this picture says it all. Walking into the pits after the feature was over, Stan was always the first one we visited. I think he signed about 3,000 autographs for me while I was growing up. I'm only old enough to remember him all the way back to the #2 car but my father always told me about all of the great cars he ran over the years. Everyone has their opinion of who the best driver ever was and to me, it was Stan. YES folks, in my opinion, even better than Billy Pauch!
11/9/03 3-Wide All I can say is that when Stan teamed up with Ken Brenn Sr. and drove the Olson built #24 coupe and then the Floyd Trevis built coupe the following year, he was pretty much unbeatable!  Like I said before, I don't get into who's the best and who's not, but I agree with you, Stan is right up there.   I would just have to mention though, as good as they both are, Billy has been good at it now for almost 25 years which has to factor in there somewhere.  But when it came to the 70's, STAN was the MAN!
11/10/03 Dominic K I totally agree with you Joe. If I had to choose 2, it would be Billy and Stan. Stan always stood out to me because of the style he had. Most drivers, except for him and Brightbill, wouldn't take it to the outside that often. I still wish Stan would get the itch again. No matter what he would get behind the wheel of, he would make it fast. Maybe Burkett will read this and buy a 27jr to go along with that 27kc?? One can only dream...
11/10/03 3-Wide I've heard a couple drivers from back in the day say that it's really difficult to make the transition from the sturdy suspensions that they once ran to a much softer suspension cars of today.  I guess back in the day the cars stayed pretty level left to right through the corners, but now, it's a whole different deal with the cars having about as much travel as the old Mickey Thompson Off Road Trucks!  Either way, given the right opportunity, I'd bet Stan could still get the job done...
01/02/04 Gary Lileck I remember growing up and having a t-shirt with this car on it. Stan was always one of the nicest drivers to us fans. He always had time for the fans. I had a t-shirt of this Trenton Mack-74 car and the No. 65 car.
