Comments: Another great photo from Steve - (Check out the quarter panel - Snoopy says it best "Fences Are Hell").

I don't know if it was the quality of the cars, or the drivers... or the idea that the best driver's would move up to Modified eventually, but to me, this was a great time for the sportsman division.  While the modifieds were always the headliner, for most in attendance, the sportsman feature was every bit as exciting and compelling.  We'll always remember guys like Ray Liss, Joe Hall, Les Katona, Pete Madsen and others from around 74 & 75....  and George Ault was a big part of the show.

06/30/08 Mark Yaple This was a Tobias chassis modified by sprint car wizard Bill McConnell prior to the ''74 season. I worked with George for two seasons and agree the competition in the Sportsman division at that time was second to none.

07/01/08 Tony A. This has to be opening day, there's not a mark on the car. I can remember a drive down Roosevelt Blvd. in Philadelphia for blue header paint, I could go on. George, Mark, and I are 19-20 years old here, Les around 30, and George's dad. On the hood scoop is thanks to Bill McConnel. (axle tubes were cut by Lee Hendrickson )
