Comments: Comment from John: "Here's a picture of Bob Pickell I took at Flemington 1976.....Meeting him at the 2006 Spring Reunion held at the Flemington Elks and chatting with him for almost an hour on everything from driving the "Duce" to the 707 to life in the Florida keys, to building the El dorado Hauler, was an experience I won't soon forget!! He is a true legend and I found him to be a great guy!!"

04/18/06 Bucky Steven's Bob Pickell could drive anything.

This was a Chesson car, which was at the tail end of his career. He won a race at Nazareth with this car. The day started with him asking his pit guy Lenny "Well do you think we should go racing today". "Well, Let's change the oil then."

It originally had an independent front end on it and Bobby carried and extra set of A frames on it. He finished eight at Flemington in a 200 lap feature with the A frame front end. Not before he tore off the right A frames in a Red Flag wreck. They towed him in, he hopped out of the car, and during the red flag he began repairs. Slim Storr came over and told him to stop.

Basically, he told slim something along the lines of pound salt, I'll see you for a beverage at the Elks later and fixed the car. When it came to aligning the front end it got an eyeball. that should work alignment. He hopped back in and improved his position to finish eighth. Another leading character.
02.17.11 CHIP Please correct me if I'm wrong, I think the Ole Master bought this car and won 1 at EWS in late 76'. And put a new pinto body on it and won 1 at the Nazareth 1/2mile in 77'.
Thanks
02.17.11 3-Wide I'm not sure... I know that Bob Pickell Jr also drove this car at some point, and that this is the car that Bill Lowden restored as the #300, that currently (2011) looks pretty much like the photo above.
