of my favorite cars of the early 70's. I can still remember the night when Dave and
Les Katona were battleing for the lead in the Sportsman Feature... I think Dave was
leading Les when contact occurred between turn one and 2... The #99 took a wicked
flip... A couple of months back, I was at Lawrence Engineering... and I was able to say hello to Les and in conversation.... I mentioned that night... We'll you would have thought it happened last weekend! Not only did Les remember it, but he was able to describe how the #99 came down just enough to make contact and over it went.... Speaking of the #99, if you get a chance, ask Nick Leach about this car... He'll tell you that this is the reason that Nick's brother Johnny ran a silver #99... and then Kenny Roth ran a #99 because of Johnny.... and now 2005 Rookie Champion Randy Yaple runs the #99 because of the association with Johnny Leach (Randy's dad Mark Yaple owned a car that Johnny drove in the early 80's).... |
