Comments: This is the view that I had for most of the 70's and 80's....  This photo provided by Wayne Bechtel shows the famous Flemington Drift that would begin right about at the start finish line, and wouldn't end until... well... just about the start finish line!

Basically, for those who weren't fortunate to have been there back in the day, the only way to get around Flemington fast in the 70's was to keep it in a drift the whole way around... (well, maybe a little straight for a few feet down the frontstretch -as the 5th car in line is here - and then maybe a few feet down the middle of the backstretch.  But for the most part, looking out the right side window seemed to be the norm!)

06/20/05 Dave Spurlin I love that trivia picture! If the races were still like that, I'd still be going every week instead of once or twice a year!
07/01/05 Frank Miller I was with Wayne when he took this picture in early 1976. Our buddy's favorite driver was sideways Stan the Man Ploski.  Look how far he pitched his car into the 1st turn.   Those mod heats back then were full off all kinds of cars - home built or store bought, but they were all fast with about 1/3rd the money they have in today's cars!!
09/09/05 DJ Everett The action may have been exciting but the track always had a large crowd on hand back then as you can see in this photo.
09/14/05 Bill Hanna Did you notice that Harry Dee is backing up the flagger on the stand, who is none other than future Flemington Director of Competition Joe Hall.
06/27/06 ANDY HORNE I sat down toward the flag stand in turn 1 every saturday night back then too. See the tire groove under the right door of the CL22 worn into the track. Now notice the right rear tire of that Trenton Mack #27. Stan would plant that tire in the same spot every lap until he had a groove worn in it. That is amazing. Rest In Peace Flemington!
07/13/07 Brian C. Loutrel This is early 1976. Fitz is in the Verona McCabe #23 Chevette (rememberthose? That's how I know this is 1976) and Stan is in his own Mustang, which he parked on Memorial Day 1976 to begin driving the new Weld Gremlin (another reason why I know this is 1976.).
