Comments: I don't know what it is, but some of these old pictures that you guys have stashed away, taken from the grandstands makes me miss the place more and more.

Who would have thought warm-ups could be so cool.  After slowly rolling out of the pits, the drivers would often be held for a minute or two in front of the main grandstand as the rest of the modifieds made there way out.

If you stare at this photo from Herb Schmidt, you can almost hear the engines idling... with the occasional necessary little "blurp" to keep them from loading up.   The sound would reverberate through the covered grandstand.  You notice the drivers, suited for battle, wondering what would be the outcome of yet another battle against not only a stout field of Modified chauffeurs, and against the old speedway itself.  And then... you see it... Stan turns his head toward the grandstand...   You hope he can see you, but your afraid to wave for fear that he won't see you...   Oh, what the hell - you wave anyhow.... as a way of saying good luck... and go get em', and as a way of letting those near you know who you were rooting for!

04/15/05 Dominic Korzecki 1977 was the last of the 3 Flemington Modified Championships that Stan held. One thing I always loved (and still see at Grandview) is when all the fans stand up as the modifieds line up on the front stretch for the feature.

From an outsider's point of view, it may seem that people are standing to stretch their legs but I've always believed it was a show of respect from the fans. I can't put my finger on what that magic is but you can be sure that we all feel the same way Joe.
