Looking at this picture I see an intensity that not many pictures capture. Two great drivers. Two great cars. All Stars for sure.

When I was helping Timmy Kirsh at his photo stand back in the early 90’s (Reading Racing Reunion), I found this one and asked his to make copies because I was sure it would sell.  It did.

If I remember, Red had another photo, possibly snapped the same night, same corner.  That included the 707 with Stan and the Z1 coach driven by Lee Hendrickson.  As I may have mentioned, I had the pleasure of going through about ¼ of Red’s negatives & sheets to help Timmy pick out “quality” photos to sell at the reunion.  I only wish I could have gone through them all……

04.05.13 3-Wide Hey Bill - Let me know what the correct spelling of Red's last name.  Thanks.

Hey Bill, one night my buddy Clark Renninger and I went up to Tim’s house in Orwigsburg and he got out the entire collection he had reprinted at that point from his Dad’s negatives. I almost went into a picture coma it was awesome !! I bought a dozen or so prints and ordered a few more from contact sheets, and Tim printed them up for us. Unfortunately, Tim passed away back 2010. I wonder if he had ever passed the collection onto a family member, or if they were thrown away?

This was a very special and magical time for modified racing at the Reading Fairgrounds.  Within a couple of short years the cars had changed from full fendered coupes and coaches to cut down, lightweight beasts with injected big blocks and advanced suspension improvements that made them scary fast than just a couple of years before.  This was also a time for a new generation of drivers to take on the old guard of Tasnady, Schneider, Olson and others.  New heroes like Ploski, Evans, Chamberlain, Reutimann and others went head to head against the old guard.....and won.  Yes....it was a melding of new technology, old heroes vs new heroes.....at a venue that (in my humble opinion) was second to non in modified racing.

It was a good time indeed.

Boy add the Bullock #76 in there yet, and you’d have 3 of the best running FORDs ever.  I wonder if the #7 had something to do with it!

10.11.13 Tom Gray I loved the old open face helmets with the goggles and leather face protector.....early 70's  featuring unique cars and drivers with big brass in the undercarriage.

Here is an interesting trivia footnote:  both of these guys won the Lebanon Valley 200 (Jackie Evans in 1967 and Stan Ploski in 1969).  Great drivers who could win anywhere.
