Comments: | Comment: I remember this car being driven by Dean Applegate and also by Oliver Butler. I am told that it was owned by Modified driver Dave Hulse who I'm pretty sure is the fellow in the blue shirt leaning over the engine. |

12.30.12 | Rick Shive | This is Dave Hulse's 68, built and driven by Dean Applegate. Dean told me it was built as a copy of his 9A sportsman of the previous season ('73), which became Bob Ayers 69. Had a cool chain driven steering setup (instead of U- joints). Possibly the last dirt modified built using a stock frame, that won a feature, 1974. Dean retired after the '74 season, and Oliver Butler drove this car in '75. Sold to Rick Lewis who ran it as a #21 Pinto in '76, and a Mustang in '77. I bought it from Rick, this was my first sportsman car, ran at Flemington and Nazareth in '79. Not much left of it when I was done with it. |
12.30.12 | 3Wide | That's an interesting concept Rick, "the last stock frame car to win a modified feature." I don't know about other tracks, but for Flemington and East Windsor, I think you might be on to something there. |
