Not so much this car but the
State Wide hauler in the background. In 1980 when I mechaniced for Bud
Orens (the best guess of Russ Dodge) the State Wide car always was parked
next to the starters shack. Since it was my job to check Bud's starting
position I saw the State Wide a many times. And, in the tradition of money
talks, before hot laps (I would check Bud's wheel packing assignment, three
laps for each sportsman car) they would leave the hood off the car and cared
little that I literally stuck my nose next to their injector stacks. I wish
I could wind the clock back in time. |
