Comments: This is what I miss about the sport.  Other than the rear tires, I doubt if there are any other pieces on that ever thought it would end up on a racecar!  I'm sure that most of it was either hand made or found at the salvage yard, and that's what used to be so great about this sport.

No wonder many of us over 40 (and some pretty well over 40 at that...) feel like something's missing at today's short track events.  Where has the individuality of the car gone?  Can you tell the difference between a TEO and a Troyer?  More importantly, (if your'e not driving it),  WOULD YOU CARE?  I sure as hell don't, and I sure as hell didn't need anyone to tell me the difference between a Corvair and a Falcon, or a Gremlin and a Pinto, or a Coupe and a Sedan...

Here Bob proudly stands - as he should - next to his effort, on another night at Flemington where with the help family and friends, you built your ride and towed it up Rt 31 (on a trailer you probably built yourself as well), on a Saturday night sometime between April and October, in hopes of qualifying for the big show.

Thank you Bob and for all the other guys like Bob.

12/21/03 Keith R. Calhoun The picture of the 37 car is my uncle, Bob Wright.  My father, Bob Calhoun and my uncle built these cars during my childhood and raced at Flemington, East Windsor, Nazareth, Grandview, Reading and a host of other tracks.  A story from my family has it that my father and my uncle were racing at Flemington while my mother was across the street at the Hunterdon Medical Center giving birth to me!  Thank you for remembering those times and for the support that each family gave voluntarily to this great sport.
12/22/03 Mark Yaple Bob Wright. Nice guy who started his career in a #37 sportsman sedan and moved briefly into the mods.  Bob helped Augie Falcone for years and still can be seen at the local tracks spectating.
12/21/03 Dave Klapinski My name is Dave Klapinski and Bob Wright is a old family freind who gave me a chance to live out a life's dream to go racing.   Bob raced at Flemington and East Windsor, drove to Reading once or twice.  Bob still goes to New Egypt every Sat. night and was on the Augie Falcone raceteam.   Great times and GREAT MEMORIES.
12/21/03 Diane The person in the picture is Bob Wright he drove that car at Flemington and East Winsdor the car was also driven by George Amermen at Reading  the builder of the car was Bob's brother in law Bob Calhoun.  I am Bob Wright's sister Diane.
12/26/03 Fred Voorhees You couldn't be more correct 3 Wide!   I am right alongside of you in missing the old style bodies.  Who can forget the old gremlins, pintos, mustangs, falcons, coupes and coaches?  Not to mention - Dave Kneisels AMC Pacer bodied modified!
12/26/03 3-Wide It would really be tough Fred, but with enough support and an individual or company that could come up with a some trophy or point fund money, maybe we could get New Egypt to look at allowing the Sportsman guys who wanted to take the time and put the back half of a real body on.  I would love to see them provide an incentive for guys to want to do it (weight break, open tire... Whatever.)    Hell, I don't care what they do... as said in an earlier post, I'd give them a 2 lap head start just for showing a little originality and personality - 2 things that this sport was built on.  I know it's not easy to do, but I don't think there were too many support rods and Dzus fasteners on Bob's #37Jr above and he got the thing on there!
01/09/04 Augie Falcone I moved next door to Bob in 1971, at that time I never heard of Dirt track stock cars. He took me to Flemington that week I moved in I believe and I've been hooked ever since. Thanks Bob. We made a lot of memories through those years. I remember well.  Augie Falcone
04/01/04 BOBBY FIORELLO NEVER FORGET ALL THE GREAT TIMES WITH AUGIE, BOB CALHOUN, BOB WRIGHT - JUST HANGING AROUND THE GARAGE IN YARDVILLE...  SEE YOU GUYS IN MAY...

BOB AND I GO WAY BACK WHEN ALL OF US RACER CHASERS COULDNT GET ENOUGH OF STOCK CARS NO MATTER WHERE THEY RACED.  I'M TALKING 5 OR 6 YOUNG KIDS THEN.....  JUST SAYING THANKS BOBBY,AUGIE, MR CALHOUN ETC...

12/31/04 BIG JOHN I AGREE 100% WITH THE COMMENTS ON THIS PICTURE. THE OLD DAYS ARE MISSED AS WELL AS THE CARS AND DRIVERS. REAL RACE CARS ARE REAL CARS AT SOME POINT. THANKS FOR THE FANTASTIC SIGHT. BIG JOHN
